Auto Trader and Microsoft sign exclusive IE8 month-long deal
Auto Trader has signed an exclusive ad deal with Microsoft to promote a customised version of its IE8 browser. The car listings site’s 10.3m monthly users can download IE8 from the Auto Trader website, giving them customised functionality and a more targeted user experience.

Internet Explorer 8 includes tailored add-ons, such as Web Slices, which let users track and view changes to their favourite sections of the Auto Trader, or any other, website via the Favourites bar.

The month-long Microsoft tie-in launches Auto Trader’s deal with ad-serving platform InSkin to provide more ad inventory and interaction across the site. It follows a similar sponsorship of the Auto Trader site by Google Chrome last year.

The InSkin deal is the latest in a series of ad moves by Auto Trader. In January it restructured its sales team to build closer relationships with agencies, creating two agency group head roles (nma 14 January 2010).
