Absolute Radio puts digital station Dabbl back in the lab |
|
Absolute Radio has stopped broadcasting the digital station Dabbl, which allows listeners to choose the songs it plays, on London and Cardiff DAB, and online.
Absolute Radio said its digital team, One Golden Square labs, had many more ideas for Dabbl and the station was taking a break while it experimented with how Dabbl could continue to "democratise the playlist".
Dabble allowed listeners to browse or search for songs and vote for tracks they wanted to hear. The songs with the most votes were then played across the next hour.
The most-voted-for songs on Dabbl have included a live version of Muse’s ‘Uprising’ recorded in Madrid, Brandon Flowers’ ‘Crossfire’, Gorillaz’s ‘Oh Melancholy Hill’ and Marina And The Diamonds’ ‘Oh No’.
In August last year, Media Week revealed Absolute Radio’s plans to launch a digital radio station, which would allow the playlist to be chosen by listeners and, after a test period, Dabbl launched on 1 October 2010.
Yesterday, Absolute Radio announced it was to broadcast its 1990s-themed digital station, which launched on London DAB in June, on the national DAB network for a five-week trial period from today.
