Women lead rise in Yahoo traffic from iPads
Women make up nearly half of all iPad users amid wider changes in user behaviour three months after the device launched in the US, according to consumer research published by Yahoo.

It also reported a seven-fold increase in the number of iPad users visiting Yahoo properties in the last two months compared to the first four weeks of the device’s availability.

Early research by Yahoo demonstrated that women represented 34% of all iPad users in the first month after launch in April. However, they now make up 49% of the 3m US iPad users.

Ashley Cheng, Yahoo senior target marketing manager, said, “Another notable difference is which properties these users are visiting on the Yahoo network.Traffic to Yahoo Groups, Yahoo Shopping and Yahoo Travel increased 28%, 25%, and 22% respectively.”

The iPad is most popular with people aged 35-44, who account for 28% of all iPad users, found Yahoo.

“As the iPad user base on Yahoo has increased, the interest in business/investment topics among these users hasn’t decreased,” said Cheng. “On the contrary, it grew 46% compared to iPad early adopters, or 130% more than an average US user. The search category also has the highest penetration rate; these iPad users are 2.8 times more likely to search for investment-related information on Yahoo than the US average.”
