Ebay boosts App Store offering
Ebay has updated its App Store portfolio with the launch of its Ebay Selling app, which uses barcode scanning technology to allow vendors to automatically upload details of their sale items and list themin the store, in a bid to generate £1bn in annual mobile revenues.

The launch of the app follows Ebay’s initial app launch on the App Store, which has been downloaded more than 7m times and helped the retailer generate more than £408m worth of its transactions on mobile in 2009 (nma.co.uk 4 Jan).

Ruth Szyszkowski, Ebay spokeswoman, said, “We know that the average UK home has £450 worth of items to sell. The new iPhone app means that sellers can now list and manage their items anytime, anyplace, anywhere, so it’s quicker and easier than ever for sellers to make money.”

The eBay Selling app allows Ebay vendors to advertise their sale items via their social network profiles and the company predicts its launch will help it generate £1bn in mobile revenues in 2010.
