Tesco rolls out grocery shopping app

Supermarket giant Tesco is launching a free app for the iPhone that will enable users to log in to their online grocery account and shop on the go.

The grocery app is an addition to existing Tesco apps, including Clubcard and the Winefinder, which together have amassed more than one million downloads.

The app enables customers to shop on the go for groceries via their iPhones. Once downloaded, those customers who have registered with Tesco.com will be able to access their home store’s product range and their favourite items, which are recognised by previous online purchases.

Facebook becomes most used website

People spend more time on Facebook than anywhere else online, including all of Google’s combined properties, according to ComScore.

A total of 41.1m minutes were spent on Facebook in August, equating to 9.9% of total time online. This compared to 39.8m minutes (9.6%) on Google sites, including YouTube and Google.com.

Yahoo sites received a total of 37.7m minutes of dwell time (9.1%), down from 12% for the same period in 2009.

comScore buys analytics firm Nedstat for $37m

Amazon to sell subscription service for online movies?

Amazon is reportedly planning to launch an online TV and movie rental service, and is cureently in talks with major TV and film studios.

According to report in the Wall Street Journal, Amazon has approached media companies including Time Warner. with plans to start an online video subscription service to rival Netflix in the US. The paper quoted three people ‘with knowledge of the talks’. Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos is broadening the retailer’s digital entertainment services to combat rivals such as Netflix, Hulu LLC and Apple.

Craigslist censors US adult services ads

NEW YORK - Free classified listing website Craigslist.com has blocked its adult services section, replacing it with a "censored" banner on its US site, following sustained pressure from lawmakers.

The self-policed community site, which started as an email distribution list for friends, has been under pressure from US attorneys-general to remove the ads.

The Sun launches £59 perfume in Harrods

News International's The Sun has launched a fragrance called Buzz, which is being advertised in the streets outside Harrods today with scented posters. The scent is a collaboration between The Sun and perfumer Roja Dove of Harrods, where it will be sold from today priced £59 per 50ml.

Apple launches social network for music fans

Apple is entering the social media market to compete with Facebook and Twitter, with the launch of its music-orientated social network. Speaking at Apple's annual press conference in California yesterday, chief executive Steve Jobs announced the launch of Ping, a music-orientated social network that lets users to create a profile to share information on music and gigs, as well as allowing them to see what friends and artists are listening to and downloading.
